About this book
Complete 2nd Grade Curriculum at Home
The Complete 2nd Grade Curriculum at Home gives 7 and 8 year olds a full year of reading, spelling, grammar, writing and math across 36 weeks, each one planned for you.
Reading is the heart of every week. Children read a new story or nonfiction article, such as Johnny Appleseed, How Clouds Make Rain, The Monarch's Long Trip or Frogs and Toads, and answer comprehension questions about it. The spelling list is built on one pattern at a time, like long vowel teams, -dge and -tch, silent letters, homophones or prefixes such as un-, re- and dis-, with a sort, practice and a check.
Grammar lessons cover collective nouns, irregular plurals, past tense verbs, quotation marks, dictionary order and writing a friendly letter. Writing prompts give your child regular practice putting ideas on paper. Second-grade math includes adding and subtracting to 1,000 with regrouping, place value, time to five minutes, money, arrays, measurement, data and fractions.
You get three printable PDF books of 12 weeks plus a 19-page Parents' Guide (a typical day and week, the year at a glance, scope and sequence, learning objectives, tips, FAQ, progress trackers and a certificate), 635 pages in all, in a Colourful Edition and an ink-saving Black & White Edition, each for US Letter and A4. There is also an 81-page Answer Key with every page that has set answers filled in. UK families would place this at Year 3.
