About this book
Complete 1st Grade Curriculum at Home
This 1st grade homeschool curriculum covers a full year in 36 planned weeks, with about 45 minutes of work a day. It is written for 6 and 7 year olds who can already read simple words and are ready to grow.
Each week is built around one phonics pattern, moving from short vowels and blends to digraphs, silent e, vowel teams like ai, oa and igh, r-controlled vowels, -ed and -ing endings, and prefixes and suffixes. The week's spelling list uses that pattern, with a sort, practice pages and a spelling check. A grammar mini-lesson covers things like nouns and verbs, question marks, contractions and commas in a list.
There is a new reading passage every week, from Sam and the Big Map to Fireflies at Night and A Careful Astronaut, with comprehension questions and a writing prompt. Math covers facts to 20, place value to 120, two-digit adding and subtracting, time, money, fractions and graphs.
You get three printable PDF books of 12 weeks plus a 19-page Parents' Guide (a typical day and week, the year at a glance, scope and sequence, learning objectives, tips, FAQ, progress trackers and a certificate), 635 pages in all, in a Colourful Edition and an ink-saving Black & White Edition, each for US Letter and A4. There is also an 80-page Answer Key with every page that has set answers filled in. In the UK, children of this age are in Year 2.
