About this book
Complete 3rd Grade Curriculum at Home
This 3rd grade homeschool curriculum is a complete, planned year for 8 and 9 year olds: 36 weeks of reading, word study, grammar, writing and math.
The weekly passages are longer now and lean toward nonfiction. Your child reads about thunderstorms, the Wright brothers, octopuses, the Statue of Liberty, ant colonies and life on the International Space Station, alongside a fable or two like The Lion and the Mouse. Each passage comes with thinking questions that ask for more than recall.
Word study moves from vowel teams into -tion and -sion, -ous, -able and -ible, and Greek and Latin roots such as tele, graph, port, bio and geo, with a sort, practice and a weekly check. Grammar covers verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, conjunctions, complex sentences, similes, idioms and editing, and the writing prompts build toward opinion and narrative paragraphs. Math covers multiplication and division, fractions, area and perimeter, rounding and telling time to the minute.
You get three printable PDF books of 12 weeks plus a 19-page Parents' Guide (a typical day and week, the year at a glance, scope and sequence, learning objectives, tips, FAQ, progress trackers and a certificate), 635 pages in all, in a Colourful Edition and an ink-saving Black & White Edition, each for US Letter and A4. There is also a 79-page Answer Key with every page that has set answers filled in. In the UK, this matches Year 4.
