About this book
Backyard Bugs Science Unit
Backyard Bugs is an 18-page insect unit for ages 4 to 6, for children who stop to look at every ant on the sidewalk.
Its read-aloud fact page covers four things worth knowing. Insects have six legs and three body parts. Bees drink nectar and carry pollen, which helps plants make fruit. Ladybugs eat aphids, tiny bugs that hurt garden plants. And spiders have eight legs, so they are not insects at all.
The activity pages use words like ladybug, butterfly, dragonfly, grasshopper, caterpillar, snail, beetle and firefly. Your child traces bug words, cuts out word cards, counts and writes to 10, does an I-spy counting page, cuts and sorts pictures into insects and not insects (an ant, a bee, a ladybug and a grasshopper against a spider, a worm, a snail and a frog), finds words in a word search, solves a maze and matches bugs to their shadows. Two coloring scenes show a dragonfly and a grasshopper beside a pond with cattails, and bees flying around a hive in a tree. A What I Learned page asks for a favorite fact, and there is a certificate.
These bug and insect worksheets for kindergarten come as a black-and-white printable PDF for US Letter or A4.
