About this book
Poetry Playground
Poetry Playground is a 10-page poetry writing pack for children aged 6 to 10. It introduces five kinds of poems: acrostics, haiku, rhyming couplets, shape poems and five-senses poems.
Each poem page starts with a short, kid-friendly explanation of how that kind of poem works. Then there is space to write and a box to illustrate. Acrostics use the letters of a word to start each line. Haiku count syllables in a 5-7-5 pattern. Couplets pair two rhyming lines, three times over. Shape poems are written on lines inside a shape, and senses poems describe something through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch.
There are seven poem pages in all, with extra acrostic and haiku pages because those two often get written more than once. The how-to page reminds children there are no wrong answers and suggests reading poems aloud and clapping the syllables.
It ends with a certificate and comes as a black-and-white printable PDF for US Letter or A4. Print it again for another round of poems.
