Not every preschooler enjoys spooky. This Halloween busy book for ages 3 to 5 keeps things friendly, with smiling jack-o'-lanterns, a cheerful ghost, a black cat, a witch hat and a candy bucket instead of anything scary.
The six coloring scenes are gentle too. A scarecrow chats with crows in a cornfield, children bob for apples at a party, a ghost flies a bat-shaped kite over a hill, an owl and a smiling spider sit by a big web, and a little superhero carries a pumpkin bucket down a street of decorated houses. A family of bats hangs upside down for the last picture.
The 43 pages mix those scenes with tracing Halloween words, three mazes, dot-to-dots, counting Halloween pictures to 10, finding the matching shadow, patterns, sorting big and small and spotting the odd one out.
