About this book

Cinco de Mayo Pack

The Cinco de Mayo Pack is a short, 9-page printable for children aged 4 to 8 about what the holiday actually celebrates.

The read-aloud fact page sets things straight. Cinco de Mayo means the fifth of May in Spanish. It remembers the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when Mexico's army won against a much larger army. In the United States, many people celebrate Mexican culture with music, dance and food. And it is not Mexico's Independence Day, which is September 16, a common mix-up that kids enjoy knowing.

After reading, your child colors the flag of Mexico and does a papel-picado-style paper-cutting activity, folding and snipping paper to make a lacy banner. There is also a page of words to trace, such as piñata, guitar and drum, a count-and-write page, and a coloring page of children at a spring celebration with a piñata, paper banners, flowers and maracas.

A certificate is included. The download is one PDF of black-and-white pages for US Letter or A4 printers.
